Orphan and Children Education Association of New Nepal (OCEAN Nepal) was established in 2005 by Rajendra Subedee and is a non-profit and non-government organisation. OCEAN Nepal operates a children’s home in Kathmandu called Ramro Sathi, which currently provides care for sixteen children. OCEAN Nepal’s goal is to equip our children with the necessary skills to enable them to become self-sufficient adults. We believe that education is the best way to meet this goal. Along with a good education, OCEAN Nepal provides the children with a safe and loving environment where they can grow, learn and thrive.
OCEAN Nepal began with Rajendra, who as a young climbing guide, saw many young children working in harsh conditions in the villages he visited on his trekking expeditions. He felt compelled to help and so he started OCEAN Nepal with five children who came from the rural area of Dhading in Nepal. These children and a house mother lived in four rented rooms in a house in Kathmandu. Over the next few years, Rajendra brought five more children from Humla, in the far northwest part of Nepal, into his care. The rooms began to feel overcrowded and renting did not provide stability so the dream of building a home began to take shape. In 2010, the new house was ready for the children. It is called Ramro Sathi which means “Best Friend” in Nepali and is now home to sixteen children, two house mothers and Rajendra’s own family.
OCEAN Nepal has seven volunteer members on the management board and it is registered with the Chief District Office of Kathmandu (registration number 95/062/063) and affiliated with the Social Welfare Council (registration number 18314) under the HMG Ministry of Social Welfare. All the members are actively involved in local social and cultural activities and are dedicated to the aims and objectives of the organization.
